Get to Know Ryan

As a candidate for judge in this upcoming election, Ryan is committed to ensuring that everyone who walks through the courthouse doors is treated fairly and impartially. He is passionate about serving the public and believes that it's his duty to uphold the law while also being empathetic to the needs and concerns of the people who come before him. With his years of experience as a lawyer, and his prior professional experience, he has the knowledge and expertise to do so.

Ryan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, Journalism Concentration, from the University of Toledo, Ohio, and is a cum laude graduate of Thomas M. Cooley Law School, graduating in the top 20 percent of his class.

Every manner of case that a Probate Court handles, Ryan has extensive experience in, including child abuse/neglect cases, divorces with children, guardianships, conservatorships, and estate matters. Ryan's experience is unique in that he has seen the real-world consequences of how matters in court affect people when they are out of court and in real life.

Prior to practicing law, Ryan was an award-winning newspaper reporter and editor. Five times the Associated Press cited him specifically for his work; two of those awards were first-place prizes for investigative reporting and headline writing, respectively. At one time Ryan could call himself one of the best investigative reporters in Ohio, as well as one of the best headline writers. He carries that experience as a professional writer with him.

Ryan's 23-year career has been spent in and around the legal system.

In his time away from his work, Ryan is a 13-year member of the Hesperia Community Schools Board of Education, where he currently serves as vice-president. He has also served as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 1133 in Hesperia; coached elementary basketball and little league baseball; serves as a Lector at St. Michael Catholic Church in Brunswick; serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the Hesperia Area Chamber of Commerce; and is a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Marian Council 3111.

Ryan and his wife have three children.
